Biographical Sketch 
Dr. Fatima was born and raised in Pakistan. She received her MBBS degree from Rawalpindi Medical College, Rawalpindi, Pakistan and was an officer in medicine and surgery, 6 months each, in Pakistan. Afterwards, she came to the United States to complete her residency in pathology at the University of Toledo, Toledo Ohio (2002-2006) followed by fellowships in cytology (2006-2007) at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, MI and renal pathology (2009-2011) at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. During her pathology residency, she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society. She joined the Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2011, following being certified by the Anatomic Board of Pathology, Inc. In Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology with added qualification in Cytopathology.

Description
Dr. Fatima is working on the role of activated parietal epithelial cells in the pathogenesis of focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis and their role in arterionephrosclerosis in APOL-1 high risk variants among African Americans. In addition, She is a part of CureGN working group: Biomarker Discovery/Validation/Characterization. CureGN is a NIH funded multi-institutional study that will improve understanding of pathogenesis of primary glomerular diseases and improve the quality of care and life for patients with these glomerular diseases.
