Biosketch: I have diagnostic and clinical expertise in the area of Hematopathology; including in Flow Cytometry, lymphoma, leukemia, myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasms, plasma cell neoplasms/myeloma, hemoglobinopathies and Surgical Pathology. My research interests are in bone marrow topography, tissue microarrays (TMA), FISH, immuno-architecture in bone marrow and lymph nodes, automated needle biopsy techniques, muse models of leukemia, (FLIT3-ITD), IRESSA trial in non-small cell lung carcinomas and CD30 expression in mast cells. Other areas I did work on include digital imaging, image analysis, Web-technology and developing techniques for digital image quantification of hemophagocytosis in macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) on the bone marrow biopsies. I have collaborated extensively with UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center Investigators and other outside University Medical Centers on above research areas resulting in several peer reviewed publications. As educator, I developed Hematopathology teaching guidelines and curriculum for UAB Hematopathology fellows/trainees, and collaborated with other national experts in publishing training guidelines for Hematopathology programs. I have similarly developed curriculum / teaching material for the UAB School of Medicine MS-II students. In addition, I oversee UAB Health system Hematology/Bone marrow laboratories, and responsible for overall QA/QC of the section.
