BSc, First Class Honors in Physiology, McGill, 1977. MD Toronto, 1981. Fellowship in immunoparasitology NIH 1985-9. Certified in Infectious Diseases by ABIM and the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. UAB Division of Geographic Medicine 1989-2006; Division of Infectious Diseases 2006-present. Professor of Epidemiology, UAB School of Public Health 1989-2016. Founder UAB Travelers Health Clinic 1989-. Member VA Merit Review Infectious Diseases Study Section, 1997-2000. Chair Advisory Panel on Parasitic Diseases of the US Pharmacopeia 1995-2000. Funded research projects have been completed in India, Guatemala, Ghana, Brazil, and Peru in addition to the 23 countries where GeoSentinel sites are established. Editor Textbook of Travel Medicine, Associate Editor Emerging Infectious Diseases Journal. President Gorgas Memorial Institute of Tropical and Preventive Medicine, Inc. 2005-2016. Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers Health; BioSurveillance
Description
Development of global provider-based surveillance networks for characterization of infectious disease morbidity in travelers and migrants using innovative electronic communications modalities. 2) Development of novel techniques for the clinical teaching of tropical medicine to graduate physicians from industrialized countries, on-site in the tropics while maintaining all traditional accreditation standards. Director of the Gorgas Courses in Clinical Tropical in Lima, Peru Development of novel strategies to track global trends in disease and occupational health risk among employees of multinational corporations.
