Biographical Sketch 
Immediately after graduation from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Dr. Ren obtained a postdoctoral fellowship from Harvard Medical School to study cancer biology and angiogenesis under the mentorship of Drs. Roya Khosravi-far and Jack Lawler. He continued his angiogenesis studies at Dartmouth College Geisel School of Medicine and the Cleveland Clinic, respectively working with Drs. Michael Simons and Roy Silverstein. These experiences guided his focus toward understanding how angiogenic signaling regulates angiogenesis and arteriogenesis in tumor progression and under ischemic conditions. His long-term goal is to ascertain key molecular targets to effectively inhibit or stimulate angiogenesis and feeding blood vessels. He anticipates that the studies in his Laboratory of Molecular and Vascular Pathobiology will yield a new paradigm for angiogenesis and aid in discovery of innovative therapeutic approaches to targeting key regulators of functional angiogenesis, which may lead to the translation into improved therapeutic strategies in patients with cancer, ischemic heart and vascular disease, diabetes or Alzheimer’s disease.
