Research/Clinical Interest
Prevention of maternal and congenital CMV infection
My principal research interest is the development of vaccines for prevention of maternal and congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. Currently, two clinical trials, supported by both NIH and industry, are being conducted in healthy young women with an investigational CMV glycoprotein B vaccine. These clinical trials will test the ability of the vaccine to prevent CMV infection and will provide substantial new information on vaccine safety and immunogenicity. In addition, they will offer a remarkable opportunity to characterize the virologic and immunologic features of CMV infection in healthy young adults, information that will be of great importance for future CMV vaccine trials.
