Course Description
This rotation will take place on CPM's highest acuity psychiatric unit, C6N. Students will have the opportunity for broad, in-depth exposure to patients with serious mental illnesses, including depression with psychotic features, schizophrenia, schizoaffective, bipolar, and other diagnoses. Students will participate in the evaluations of each patient with direct attending supervision. Each student will be responsible for following and examining 3-4 hospitalized patients with serious mental illnesses. Students will interview patients with resident and attending present, formulate treatment plans with guidance, and write daily progress notes. Students may call family or friends of patients for collateral or provide updates as needed. As patients approach discharge, students will participate in organization of post-hospital plans. Students will receive direct supervision of daily care by attendings along with weekly "student only" meetings with their attending.
