Prerequisites Successful completion of the core internal medicine, peds and surgery clerkships and any clerkship which covers the content material of the requested elective or acting internship course (e.g. Pediatric Clerkship must be successfully completed prior to taking a Pediatric Elective or AI).

Course Description This course is designed to introduce the student to pediatric hematology/Oncology. The student will be an active member of a multidisciplinary health care team. The student will admit and evaluate new patients with disorders of blood and cancer and will evaluate patients with complications of their disease or treatment. the student will be involved in inpatient as well as outpatient consultative visits. The student will be responsible to the senior resoident and Fellow in Pediaric hematology/Oncology. The student will attend tumor conference weekly and may be asked to present at that conference. No inpatient call is required during this month. If this course is selected as an AI the student will be expected to work 2 weekends throughout the month. If the student is taking this as an elective it is M-F only. Learning to deliver bad news and deal with patients with chronic illnesses is a focus of this rotation.

Requirements Attend all pediatric Hematology/Oncology rounds.
Work up and evaluate patients admitted to this service.
Attend Pediatric Tumor Board.
Attend several pediatric hematology/oncology ambulatory clinics.
Evaluation Pass/Fail. Evaluation is based on obeservation of student acheivement of the six core ACGME competencies.
