Course Description This course provides an opportunity for the student to participate in the diagnosis and management of critically ill infants admitted to the 100-bed Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The student will assume direct responsibility for patient care under the supervision of a full-time faculty member, a neonatology fellow, and a pediatric resident. Daily activities include attending rounds, radiology rounds, lecture, and high-risk deliveries. Call is not required. This course is recommended for the student who is interested in any of the following: pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, family practice, anesthesia, and critical care medicine. The student will be evaluated on a subjective basis based upon the attending physician's interview with the student and observations of the student's performance.
Where To Report RNICU 3rd Floor of Women and Infants' Center. Arrive at 7:00 am, day ends at 4:00. Expectations are to act as the primary provider for an ICU baby under close supervision including a neonatal fellow and a neonatologist 24 hours a day. If selected as a Critical Care AI- expect to work two weekends.
Requirements The student must participate in all daily activities including patient and teaching rounds. Under supervision the student will attend deliveries, provide direct patient care and write daily progress notes. The student will perform procedures according to their training.
