Biographical Sketch 
Dr. Gupta is an active clinician-scientist with expertise in general cardiology and cardiovascular imaging. He is board certified in cardiovascular disease and is Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He serves as a co-director of advanced cardiovascular MRI center at UAB and has implemented similar program at VA Hospital, Birmingham. In the past 10 years, Dr. Gupta has mentored a number of fellows, many of whom have continued their career paths at academic institutions in cardiovascular medicine. He also teaches medical students and residents, through both didactic lectures and hands-on training.

Research/Clinical Interest

Description
Dr. Gupta is passionate about innovation and translational research. He is a recognized expert in advanced cardiovascular imaging. He is the PI of NIH funded R01 grant for defining a unique approach to evaluate diastolic function, an important cause for Heart Failure with preserved ejection fraction. He has served as Director of MRI core laboratory for Specialized Centers of Clinically Oriented Research (SCCOR) in Cardiac Dysfunction and Disease and has been on the steering committee for designing and implementing a major industry sponsored multi-center clinical trial in pulmonary hypertension. Dr. Gupta has also advanced the field of preventive cardiology and inflammation. He has been instrumental in evaluating the role of apolipoprotein mimetic peptides in animal models that has in part led to testing these peptides in human clinical trials.
