Course Description
Advanced laboratory work and reading assignments in various areas of immunology and immunochemistry constitute this elective. Students who are interested in expanding their knowledge in the area of immunoglobulin structure and function, mediators in inflammation, regulation of the immune response, lymphocyte development and function, tumor immunology, transplantation mechanisms and applied aspects of immunology at the clinical level. Although the course may be elected for as little as one month, involving primarily literature research, it is desirable that a student take a three month elective so that they can be integrated into the fundamental research going on in the chosen laboratory.

Requirements
Permission of the faculty preceptor. Students should obtain permission from the individual instructor with whom the student wishes to work prior to consultation with the Department Chairman.
Evaluation
The student will be evaluated on a subjective basis based upon the faculty preceptor's interactions with the student and direct observations of the student's performance.
