Course Description The objectives of the acting internship are to provide medical students with an advanced level of Family Medicine experience and improve the student's approach to the wide range of clinical problems encountered in Family Medicine. The faculty and staff of the Family Practice Clinic provide health care to local residents and employees of nearby businesses including UAB and the City of Birmingham. The primary focus of patient care in the Family Practice Clinic is the outpatient evaluation and treatment of patients representing many undifferentiated illnesses. Students will be assigned to work with the faculty during the rotation, and will have the opportunity to see a wide variety of patient problems and develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans prior to presentation to the attending, who then reviews the history and examination and approves the final plans. Students will have one faculty member as primary supervisor but will be allowed to work with other faculty.
Where To Report Preceptor's Office. This can be done with any of our Family Medicine or Rural Medicine preceptors anywhere in Alabama.
Requirements Attendance at clinics, noon conferences and other as determined by the supervising faculty.
Evaluation Final review will be performed by the supervising faculty and will include input by other faculty dependent upon actual time spent with those individuals. Evaluation will be based upon a pass fail system. Completion of the UASOM clerkship evaluation form may be necessary to communicate strengths and any problems encountered.
