Course Description Within the curriculum, there are separate block rotations on the Cardiology and Coronary Care Unit services. Though there is significant overlap in the educational objectives and experiences, there are unique clinical goals for each rotation. It is expected that the student will gain competency in the medical knowledge, clinical skills, and systems and practice-based learning distinctive to each rotation. CARDIOLOGY SERVICE: The specific mission of this rotation is to provide solid training in the appropriate diagnosis, management, and ongoing treatment of cardiac conditions that would be relevant to the general internal medicine physician. The resident should have experiences in inpatient as well as outpatient consultation, including understanding the indications for utilization of non-invasive imaging modalities and procedures in cardiac care. CORONARY CARE UNIT (CCU): Effectively evaluate and manage patients with acute cardiac illness: acute coronary syndromes, acute myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, and life threatening arrhythmias and conduction disturbances. Understand the indications and complications of interventional procedures. Effectively evaluate and manage patients with undiagnosed chest pain. Learn the proper technique for insertion of central lines.
Where To Report MCA, 273 Winton Blount Loop, Montgomery, AL 36124.
Requirements See Course Description.
Evaluation Evaluation is Pass/Fail. At the completion of the rotation, the attending physician completes an "End of Rotation" form that is reviewed by the student. After review, it is returned to the residency office and placed in the student's file. The results of this evaluation are used to give the student formative feedback regarding their educational experience.
