Course Description
The Rural Medicine Acting Internship is a required 4 week rotation taken during the third year of medical school at the UASOM for students assigned to the Montgomery campus. This rotation is coupled with the Family Medicine clerkship to form an integrated eight week Family and Rural Medicine block. Together they are designed to foster clinical competencies within the frame work of the family physicians approach to medicine, one that emphasizes the provision of continuous, comprehensive, and coordinated care for a broad spectrum of patients in the ambulatory setting.
Where To Report
UAB Selma Family Medicine Clinic, 1023 Medical Center Parkway, Ste 200, Selma AL 36701. Office contact: Kandice Collins

Requirements
Students are required to attend rural orientation and maintain an E-Value patient log during the clerkship. Participation in all of your preceptor’s patient care activities including rounds, call (at preceptor’s discretion), nursing homes, etc. is mandatory. All students must complete a rural clerkship report for presentation and discussion at the debriefing session at the end of the clerkship. Attendance and participation in both orientation and the debriefing session is mandatory.
Evaluation
A pass / fail grade is awarded based on the performance evaluations by departmental faculty and the assigned rural preceptor. However, regardless of evaluations, a passing grade will not be awarded until the student has met all requirements of the clerkship listed above.
