Course Description
The students will rotate on the Blood and Marrow Transplantation clinic and/or inpatient service floor where they will be involved in discussion of clinical care of the patients. They may be asked to see some patients and perform case presentation and write-up of history and physical. They will learn to interpret a peripheral blood smear with a focus on hematological malignancies and become familiar with the different clinical tests performed for evaluation of hematologic disorders. They will attend different meetings including the hemato-pathology tumor board, mortality and morbidity meeting, and journal club. Learning Objectives: Become familiar with the pathophysiology of different hematological malignancies. Become familiar with the clinical management of patients with hematological disorders undergoing stem cell transplantation in an outpatient and inpatient setting. Understand the clinical care of patients on immunosuppression therapy and patients receiving chemotherapy.

Requirements
• Attending clinics as scheduled with the Faculty member.
• Attending educational meetings of journal club, mortality and morbidity meetings and weekly tumor boards.
• Assignments may be required involving UpToDate website (accessible in UAB campus), journal articles and PubMed.
• No night call or daily care call is required.
Evaluation
• Attendance of clinics, conferences and inpatient rounds.
• Case presentation/write-up (if asked to do).
