Course Description
This elective is designed for the student who wishes to gain additional experience in the field of Internal Medicine and to become acquainted with an Internal Medicine residency program in a large community hospital setting with a diverse patient population and a broad range of pathology. Students will have an opportunity to care for patients mostly in the inpatient setting, working closely as a team with Internal Medicine residents and faculty. A brief outpatient experience in the resident Primary Care clinic may be available upon special request for those with particular interest. The student will participate in patient evaluation and management, including history-taking, physical examination, and formulation of assessment, differential diagnosis, and care plan, and communicate their findings through oral presentations and written documentation. Students will have the opportunity to learn through daily Attending rounds, Morning Report, and didactics sessions.

This elective rotation will occur during weekdays with no night or weekend call requirements unless needed to make up absences.
Evaluation
Students will be evaluated on participation and interest, medical knowledge and skills, professionalism, and ability to work effectively as part of a team, using cumulative assessments from all faculty members with whom the student worked during the block. Evaluation will be on a Pass/Fail system.
