Research/Clinical Interest
Title
Targeting DNA repair pathways to augment the therapeutic ratio for cancer patients
Description
We are interested in the molecular pathways that could be targeted for cancer therapies. To address our interests, we have recently acquired the Nanostring nCounter platform which performs targeted gene expression, microRNA, protein, and/or other profiling. This will allow the discovery of tumor subtypes and prognostic signatures to effect patient therapies. Additionally, we aim to inhibit DNA repair pathways to enhance tumor susceptibility to DNA damage. In particular, we have been investigating the role of the epidermal growth factor receptor (HER/EGFR) family in DNA damage and repair. Additionally, we are interested in the protection of hippocampal neurons from radiation induced apoptosis by increasing DNA repair capacity in irradiated neurons through inhibition of GSK3beta.
