Biographical Sketch 
My background was in genetics at the University of Alberta before switching to computer science and doing bioinformatics. I originally focused on viral and microbial sequencing and sequence analysis before doing my PhD in Natural Language Processing at UAB. My lab primarily focuses on creating new methods and data sets to extract information from scientific and clinical text.

Clinical phenotyping and Natural Language Processing of Biomedical Text
Description
Identifying clinical phenotypes of interest using clinical text and electronic health records using machine learning. I also do information extraction in biomedical text as well as ontology and shared data set development.
