Biographical Sketch 
Dr. Mike Chen joined the faculty of UAB as a Professor of Surgery in 2009. He currently leads the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Children’s Hospital of Alabama. Dr. Chen has a career exemplifying service to country, the University Community, the Division of Pediatric Surgery and his patients. He has served in the US Army Reserve Medical Corps, Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom. Dr. Chen received several awards including an Army Achievement Medal. He also serves on various administrative committees related to his specialty and the hospital. Most recently he was a member of the International Relations Committee for the American Pediatric Surgical Association and the Hospital Expansion Steering Committee for Children’s Hospital. He has over 90 manuscripts and abstracts published, as well as 2 books and 4 book chapters. He speaks nationally and internationally on his research and clinical practice. In 2010 Dr. Chen received the “Best Doctors” award.
