Biographical Sketch 
Dr. Hauth is board-certified in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Director of the Center for Research in Women's Health and Chairman of the Ob-Gyn Department. He has a national/international reputation as a clinical investigator in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and has published extensively on operative obstetrics, preeclampsia and the role of maternal infection in spontaneous preterm labor and delivery. He is an editor of the newest edition of Williams Obstetrics.

Currently, Dr. Hauth is the PI for the UAB Rural Perinatal Emphasis Research Center (PERC) (1 P01 HD33927-01; 5/1/96 - 4/30/01), and for Project III and the Clinical Core within that award. He is the PI for an NIDR/NICHD Periodontal supplement to the PERC award (5 P01 HD33927; 4/1/98 - 3/31/01); and until May 2000 was the PI for the UAB participation in the NICHD Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units Network (2 U10 HD27869-06; 04/01/96-03/31/01); and, the PI for the NICHD Ob/Gyn Faculty Research Career Development Program (1 K12 HD01258-01A1). Additionally, he is Co-Program Director of the UAB Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) (1 K12 HD01402-01) award. Within the MFM Division and the Center for Research in Women’s Health, Dr. Hauth has trained and mentored many MFM fellows (15) and junior faculty (8) over the past decade. These include (current location) Drs. Dwight Rouse (UAB), Debora Kimberlin (UAB), Carey Winkler (Residency Director, Oregon Health Sciences University), Lynn Groome (Chairman, Ob/Gyn at the University of South Alabama), Debra Guinn (Denver General), and Michael Gardner (Baylor College of Medicine).
