Biographical Sketch
My undergraduate was completed at Ball State University in Muncie Indiana. Upon graduating I was recruited and worked as a technician in the laboratory of Dr. Roger Reeves at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and eventually went to Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, IN before going to Grad School. My graduate work was done with Dr. Bonnie Asch at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. After graduating I did a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Rosa Serra at the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati OH.
Research/Clinical Interest
Title
Mammary gland biology and neoplaisa
Description
Although my research interests have been in the area of mammary gland biology and cancer I have been the Genomics Core director since 2005 and have primarily been focused on service to the research community. The Genomics Core provides DNA sequencing, SNP genotyping, DNA fingerprinting, microarray and Next-Generation sequencing services on a fee for service basis. The core is completely supported by chargebacks to investigators. In addition to the Core my research interests include how the mammary ductal tree progresses through the mammary fat pad in a structured and ordered way. We're beginning to focus on the Slit/Robo pathway, which is responsible for directional growth of axons in the brain. Specifically, we have cloned a GAP (GTPase Activating Protein) from hormonally induced mammary tumors, srGAP3, and are beginning to investigate it's role in epithelial cell migration through the mammary fat pad.
