Biographical Sketch
Dr. Kenneth McCormick graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Thereafter, he attended the University of Rochester Medical School, completed residency at Case Western Reserve University( Rainbow Babies’ Hospital) followed by a 3-year NIH Diabetes/Metabolism fellowship program at Brown University. He has erstwhile held faculty positions at University of Rochester, SUNY Medical Center Syracuse, and Medical College of Wisconsin prior to relocating to UAB. Currently, Dr. McCormick is Director of Pediatric Endocrinology at UAB and Director of their Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship program. Recipient of several extramural research awards, he was the Director of the NIH Core laboratory for the Wisconsin state-wide collaborative, non-interventional, long-term study of Type I diabetes complications. His research interests are manifold, including both basic and clinical studies. Basic laboratory pursuits include the regulation of intraluminal endoplasmic reticulum metabolism and the effects of membrane fluidity on steroidogenic enzymes. He and his fellow are soon to launch a one-year oral GABA ( γ-aminobutyric acid) study, enrolling children with new-onset Type I diabetes in hopes to forfend against their ongoing autoimmune destructive process, suppress α-cell glucagon secretion, and preserve or restore residual exigent insulin-producing β-cells.
