Course Description This course provides the student an opportunity to gain experience in an inpatient rheumatology consultation setting and ambulatory clinics. The student will work primarily with the faculty in outpatient rheumatology clinics at Cooper Green Hospital and Kirklin Clinic as well as inpatient rheumatology consultation service that provides consultative services within the entire UAB Medical Center complex, VA Hospital, and Cooper Green Hospital. Students will participate in the Division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology weekly Journal Club, Rheumatology Grand Rounds, and monthly clinic for children with rheumatic diseases. OBJECTIVES: (1) Improve the student's skill of joint examination, techniques of joint aspiration and injection, and the examination of joint fluid (2) Acquire knowledge related to therapeutics, laboratory and imaging evaluation, pain management, physical therapy employed in the care of patients with rheumatic disease
