Course Description
The students will be assigned patients on whom cardiology consultation is requested at the University and Veterans Administration Hospitals and on these patients will be expected to do a thorough clinical examination, prepare a written record of these findings, become familiar with the laboratory findings and to present the patients on daily rounds. In addition, they will have an opportunity to interpret electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and perform exercise tests with the cardiology attending faculty in the Heart Station at the Veterans Administration Hospital. The students will have the option of following patients undergoing heart catheterization or other special diagnostic or therapeutic procedures conducted by the Cardiology Division. The students will have the opportunity to attend the cardiology conferences and the major Department of Medicine conferences. The student will be evaluated on a subjective basis based upon the attending physician's interview with the student and observations of the student's performance.
