Course Description The MS-4 student will function as a sub-intern on the staff general internal medicine service. The service is comprised of an attending physician from the core faculty, a senior resident, two interns and a sub-intern. Patients with a wide variety of acute general internal medicine conditions, including critically ill patients who require ICU care, are admitted and cared for by the team. The team also provides consultative care for inpatients under the supervision of the senior resident and the staff attending physician. Sub-interns are expected to participate in the care of inpatients, including critically ill patients, and to demonstrate ownership of the patients assigned to them. Sub-interns will attend morning report 4 days/week where they may be asked to present cases. Additionally, their participation and attendance is required at medicine noon conference which is held daily (M-F) as well as at Medical rounds held once weekly.

Requirements 1. Professional dress required.
2. Students must wear white lab coat with student ID when in the hospital.
3. The sub-intern will be expected to see and evaluate the assigned patients, write daily notes, pertinent orders, and perform selected procedures. The sub-intern will be expected to read about his/her patients on an ongoing basis and will be fully integrated into the inpatient care team.
