Course Description Radiation oncology is a dynamic and constantly evolving medical specialty. This course offers medical students a chance to learn the fundamentals of radiation oncology. Students will appreciate its dynamic nature through exposure to various treatment modalities, including external beam radiation, radiosurgery and brachytherapy. This rotation will also serve to demonstrate the multidisciplinary nature of cancer care, through attendance at tumor board discussions, ambulatory cancer clinics, and treatment planning rounds. STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES. Gain a basic understanding of the principles of radiation oncology. Appreciate terminology used in radiation oncology. Learn to take a comprehensive history and perform a complete physical exam as it pertains to cancer patients. Acquire exposure to procedures performed in radiation oncology, including, external beam treatment planning, proton therapy, brachytherapy, radiosurgery, etc. Learn about the latest technological advances in radiation oncology pertaining to treatment delivery that have been implemented in the department. Understand the comprehensive nature of cancer care. Gain exposure to cutting edge translational research in oncology.

Requirements • Attend daily didactic sessions
• Attend assigned ambulatory clinics
• Participate in treatment planning and radiation oncology procedures
• Completion of a group project which will entail participation in a supervised mock tumor board discussion with fellow medical students
Evaluation Pass/Fail; group assignments, presentation, project, class participation/attendance.
