Course Description The purpose of this elective rotation is to provide medical students with exposure to the wide spectrum of diagnostic, medical therapeutic and surgical aspects of vitreoretinal diseases by allowing medical students the opportunity to spend time in the retina subspecialty of ophthalmology. The rotation will consist of time spent in various offices of the attending staff of the University of Alabama Department of Ophthalmology headquartered at the Eye Foundation Hospital. Some faculty members maintain off campus offices to which the medical students will have access. The rotation will be structured as either a 2 week or 4 week elective. The primary component of the rotation will be clinical work but opportunities will exist for clinical research if desired. The student will be evaluated on a subjective basis based upon the attending physicians interview with the student and observations of the student's performance.
