Accepts students from osteopathic schools.
Visiting Students must have a Step 1 score of 230 or greater.
Course Description This course is designed for the senior student who has completed the core clerkships in Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynecology and is interested in an intensive exposure to the care of women in gynecologic malignancies. During this elective, the student will gain more didactic and practical knowledge of the management of women with suspected gynecologic malignancies. The course is based at University Hospital. The student will work closely with and be supervised by the PGY 3 and PGY 4 Resident assigned to the service, the GYN Oncology fellows, and the GYN Oncology faculty members. Students will attend conferences, selected clinics, and surgical cases during the rotation. There is no night call on this rotation. The block will be split into 2 "sub-blocks" with the student working on both the Green and Gold GYN Oncology teams. The student will: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of common gynecologic malignancies 2. Demonstrate an understanding of the surgical options for patients with uterine, ovarian, cervical, vaginal, and vulvar cancer 3. Gain exposure to the workup of patients with suspected gynecologic malignancies
Where To Report Women & Infants Center (176F - 1700 6th Ave), Room 10250. Contact Ms. Willis (205-975-0721) prior to starting the rotation for instructions on when and where to report.
Requirements Students will be expected to:
1) Attend operative cases as determined by house staff
2) Be present for and participate directly in rounds, inpatient work-ups, and selected clinics each day Mon-Fri and rounds on one weekend day per week
3) Attend (strongly encouraged) the weekly Friday afternoon department educational conferences, 12:30-2:30 pm
4) Read outside of rotation duties (strongly encouraged)
Evaluation Pass/Fail based on:
- Performance during rotation
- Resident feedback provided to attending physician
