Course Description COURSE FORMAT: 1. Daily didactic sessions while working with attending physician (Dr. Prylinski) or other members of Comprehensive Anesthesia Service 2. Review and access medical literature on various aspects of clinical anesthesiology 3. Clinical experience - Daily rounds and cases with attending physician STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1.Gain knowledge of mechanisms of action, costs, toxicities and appropriate utilization of common anesthetic agents. 2.Observe and become familiar with common anesthetic procedures including IV placement, intubation, extubation, intravenous sedation, general anesthesia and regional anesthesia. 3.Become familiar with patient monitoring equipment 4.Review various anesthetic procedures as well as physiology and pathophysiology relevant to each. 5.Understand relevant pre-, intra-, and post- operative considerations as well as how to manage emergent complications. 6.Review practice opportunities and challenges facing anesthesiologists in the near future. METHOD(S) OF EVALUATING STUDENT PERFORMANCE: The student's performance will be assessed subjectively by his participation in didactic sessions and clinical experiences. REQUIRED READING: Student will be expected to read independently about individual patients and topics discussed during cases and on clinical rounds.
