No LCME students accepted.
No osteopathic students accepted.
Course Description To expose students to interdisciplinary fields their primary care patients often use. The students will rotate through the experiences - one per day - for shifts of 4-6 hours. They will only be in the same experience on the day of the health check-up clinic. Experiences are: Ambulance ride-along; InpatientPhysical Therapy; Hospital discharge planning; Dental free clinic; health fair for low-income elderly.
Where To Report Huntsville Regional Medical Campus, Room 358, 8AM
Requirements *Physical Therapy – report to Huntsville Hospital PT at 7 a.m. to do rounds; generally finished by
about 12 noon but stay as long as the rounds are being made.
*Dental Free Clinic- open from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., stay entire shift.
*Discharge Planning with Social Worker at Huntsville Hospital – 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
*Ambulance ride alongs with HEMSI – either 7:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
*Health check-up clinic at Johnson Towers, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Evaluation The student will make a written report on the "experience" that their assigned "patient" had with these five rotations.
