Course Description
This clinical course is offered to students in cardiac disease. The student will be instructed in the diagnosis and surgical management of patients with a full range of cardiac disease. The student will be integrated into the housestaff on the service and will become an active participant in the care of patients at University Hospital and the Kirklin Clinic. The student will be expected to participate in all conferences of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Requirements
Monday-Friday: Participation in activities in cardiac surgery operating rooms, rounds/patient care, outpatient clinic.
- Tuesday 6:15 AM: Cardiac surgery conference
- Friday 6:15 AM: Thoracic surgery conference
- Same as per UAB HSOM rotations for visiting international students.
Evaluation
Evaluation at the completion of the course will be by the faculty and housestaff. No examination is required. The students will be responsible to the attending and resident staff for occasional presentations of their patients and direct intra-operative supervision.
Rating based on performance in clinical activities:
Fail - Pass - High Pass - Honors
