Course Description This course is established mainly to give MS4 UAB students and visiting MS4 students from other institutions (aka Visiting Students) an opportunity to experience Cahaba UAB Highlands Track Family Medicine Program. Learning activities will mainly be focused in our UAB Family Medicine Highlands clinic in Highlands Hospital and will involve engagement with full scope of family medicine practice. Optional activities may be to rotate with our inpatient service, shadow in other hospital-based rotations or rotate in one of our other Cahaba UAB Track clinics. Learning activities involve direct patient care evaluation and management. This program provides the learner an opportunity to grow clinical skills while discovering and experiencing the activities and culture of our Cahaba UAB Family Medicine Program.
Where To Report Highlands Hospital Room 3200 - 7:45 am
Requirements Must be a student in good standing enrolled in an accredited US Medical School (MD or DO).
Must have completed following rotations in MS3 year in respective institution: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, OB/Gyn, Pediatrics.
Must be up to date on all immunizations and health requirements required by sponsoring institution.
Evaluation Utilization of standard UAB Heersink SOM student evaluation form which evaluates clinical performance using a Likert scale based on the above objectives.
Notes Report to UAB Highlands clinic on first day of rotation
Rotate in ambulatory clinic approximately 4.5 days a week (Monday - Friday)
Attend residency formal didactic sessions 0.5 days of a week and attend other didactic sessions available during the rotation.
(Optional) May be opportunity to spend 1-2 days per rotational timeframe in either family medicine inpatient sessions, sports medicine clinic, nutrition clinic or other longitudinal clinic sessions with residents.
