Course Description
The student will function as an acting intern on this service Tho student will be exposed to a broad spectrum of general surgical diseases encountered by general surgeons. The student will be assigned direct patient care responsibilities to be undertaken under the supervision of faculty members including participating in surgical rounds and participation in bedside patient management. The student will be responsible for direct presentations to the faculty on a daily basis and will be supervised in the operating room by those faculty members. The student is expected to learn principles of surgical management including preoperative and postoperative medical management. The student will be exposed to a thorough understanding of normal physiology as it relates to surgical pathology.

Requirements
The student will be responsible for attending daily rounds and for being an active member in the management of assigned patients, The student must actively participate in clinical and operative experiences The student will gain competency in the ability lo medically manage surgical patients and develop operative surgical skills.
Evaluation
Faculty will provide lhe student wilh frequent verbal evaluation, discussion of the student' s performance, and suggestions for improvement regarding medical management of assigned patients and surgical skills in the operating room.
Notes
The student will report to rounds each morning. The student will attend clinic as scheduled and attend operative cases as scheduled. The student will participate in surgical call 1-2 nights per week.
