Course Description The program in internal medicine has as its purpose the education of students and residents in the clinical process of investigating and managing illness in an individual. This process requires the ability to obtain a complete history; perform a complete and accurate physical examination; record obtained data properly in the format fo the problem-oriented medical record; and communicate these date, both orally and in writing, to colleagues and others in a well-ordered and succinct manner. To complement this primary purpose, the program's faculty, residents, and students engage in the systematic study of disease processes, the natural history of disease, the delivery of effective care, preventive medicine, and patient education. These educational research efforts are supported by extensive clinical service in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. Problem-based learning is increasingly used as a major stimulus to cohesive learning
