Course Description Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery exposes students to all major areas of our specialty including otology, rhinology, laryngology, aesthetic surgery, tumor surgery, laser surgery, and endoscopic evaluation of the upper aerodigestive tract. The purpose of this clinical course is to provide the medical student with direct patient care responsibility for evaluating clinical problems related to the head and neck. Students will participate in clinical evaluation of patients as well as in the surgical care. This course is specifically designed for third year medical students interested in otolaryngology. Learning Objectives: Emphasis is placed on skill development and performing a thorough examination of the head and neck, including the use of specialized techniques for laryngeal examination. The student will also become familiar with basic audiological evaluation of patients with hearing disorders. Students are generally assigned to one week on each of the following services: Head and Neck, Otology, General Otolaryngology and Pediatric.

Requirements Students will be expected to participate in the Tuesday Morning Conferences. Student will spend one week on each of our services: Head & Neck (H&N), Otology (OTO), General Otolaryngology (GEN), and Pediatric Otolaryngology (PED).
Evaluation Pass/Fail. Students will be evaluated by the otolaryngology residents and faculty alike on their clinical skills including physical exam, history taking and presentation skills. They will also be evaluted on direct fund of knowledge related to otolaryngology including anatomy and physiology, pathologic states (as above) and basic treatment plan management across the major subspecialties within otolaryngology.
