Course Description Clinical experience and learning activities designed to provide students directed education in the communication skills, medical knowledge, clinical competences, and wellness involved in night-time cross coverage service, specifically in Pediatrics, that will better prepare them for entering residency. Education will be provided by both direct clinical experience and supplemental orientation material. Learning Objectives: By completion of supplemental material and in firsthand clinical experience: 1. The student will be able to demonstrate safe handoff of patients under direct supervision by end of elective. 2. The student will be able to recognize common cross cover scenarios and be able to demonstrate and initiate appropriate assessment and management under direct or indirect supervision by end of elective. 3. The student will be able to identify the appropriate components of cross cover documentation and be able to compose said notes by end of elective. 4. The student will learn effective strategies and demonstrate professionalism in communication with families, nursing, ancillary staff, and other night time team members by end of elective.

Requirements 1. Completion of educational material. 2. Maintain a Case log due at end of elective. 3. Attend 4 nights per week, participating in handoff and providing cross cover on a select group of patients. 4. Compose case write up, including presenting clinical scenario, differential diagnosis/assessment, and appropriate steps involved in the initiation of evaluation and management due at end of elective.
Evaluation Pass/Fail based on direct observation and assessment of handoff, clinical encounters (direct and indirect supervision where appropriate), and documentation; caselog; and case write up.
Notes General schedule of planned activities:

1 . View Educational documents.
2. Attend 4 nights per week with shifts from 5 pm to 7am or completion of handoff of patients.
3. Participate in Cross coverage of up to 16 patients (under direct and indirect supervision).
3. Maintain case log on nights.
4. Composition of Case Write Up.
