Course Description The purpose of this acting internship is to provide more in-depth exposure for the 4th year students who are anticipating career in psychiatry. The students will be working with UA and UA-affiliated preceptors in the community to partake in clinical care for psychiatric patients in various clinical settings. The rotation will help the student have chance to experience different clinical settings within the field of psychiatry. Learning Objectives: 1) The main purpose of this clerkship is to have the student get prepared for psychiatry residency. 2) The students will get to experience various psychiatric clinical settings in the community and learn how clinical care is provided in different settings. 3) The students will further develop clinical skills and knowledge in assessing and treating psychiatric patients. 4) The students will further develop documentation skills pertaining to patient care in psychiatry. 5) The students will learn to recognize multidimensional aspect of psychiatric disorders.

Requirements The students are expected to attend all the clinical rotation within the clerkship during the 4 weeks period. The students are also expected to perform clinical duties assigned by the attending physicians that they work with.
Evaluation Pass/Fail; The students will be assessed on their clinical skills, knowledge, professionalism, accountability, presentation/documentation, similarly to third year rotations, but with higher standards by the preceptors working with the students. The preceptors will provide their observation and assessment of the students to the clerkship director who will provide the final grade for the students at the end of the clerkship.
Notes 11. General schedule of planned activities
The course will be 4 weeks long, and each week will consist of various clinical activities, which will repeat for 4 weeks. The clinical activities include working in various community clinical settings including Tuscaloosa UA University Medical Center, Indian Rivers Behavioral Health, Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic, Brewer-Porch Children's Center, and the Whitfield Regional Hospital. The rotation will provide experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The student is expected to partake in clinical practice at a near intern level.
