Course Description This virtual course will introduce medical students to current diagnostic radiology and image guided techniques used in the diagnosis and management of patients. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing basic pathologies on imaging and becoming familiar with key imaging modalities. The student will gain experience in the diagnosis of common diseases through assigned reading material, virtual conferences, virtual didactic modules, mock imaging dictations, and optional in person rotation opportunities. Basic physics and interpretation of radiographs, radionuclide scans, ultrasound, CT and MRI scans will be discussed. Students will assimilate their knowledge by delivering a case presentation at the conclusion of the rotation. Learning Objectives: 1. Understand the role of the radiologist in the care of patients undergoing imaging evaluation and/or image guided procedures. 2. Recognize classic examples of critical diagnoses and their respective imaging modalities. 3. Demonstrate knowledge of human anatomy by recognizing key structures on various imaging modalities. 4. Understand the clinical workflow of the diagnostic radiologist, including consultation, protocoling imaging, and subsequent follow up of examinations. 5. Prepare and present a brief presentation on a topic of interest relevant to diagnostic radiology.
