Course Description
Introduction to the Scholarly Activity provides students with foundational knowledge in human subject research and the responsible conduct of research. Students are required to complete the online CITI "IRB Initial Training Course" and the CITI "RCR Abbreviated Course for Undergraduates". Learning Objective: Introduction to the Scholarly Activity is designed to introduce students to human subject research and the responsible conduct of research (RCR), both of which are essential components of research training. Students will complete the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) "IRB Initial Training Course" which provides foundational training in human subject research. The CITI IRB modules provide an overview of the historical development of human subject protections, ethical issues, and current regulatory information on human subject research. Students will also complete a responsible conduct of research training course which is a requirement for all UAB faculty, staff and students engaged in research. Specifically, the students will take complete the introductory CITI RCR course entitled "RCR Responsible Conduct of Research" The CITI RCR modules in this course provide an overview of core RCR topics including authorship, plagiarism, data management, mentoring, and research misconduct.

Requirements
Students must complete both the online CITI IRB Training Course entitled "IRB Initial Training Course" & the CITI Responsible Conduct of Research Training Course entitled "RCR Abbreviated Course for Undergraduates". Students must upload their certificates of completion of both courses to MedMap no later than 11:59 pm on June 28 to receive a grade of P. Failure to upload the documents results in a grade of F.
