Prerequisites
Basic programming skills and an interest in machine learning Please consider your schedule carefully as co-enrolled course requirments are entirely independent of your other academic responsibilities. Co-enrolled elective courses offer 2 weeks elective credit each; a student may only receive a maximum of 4 weeks elective credit from co-enrolled courses. STUDENTS ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO BE ENROLLED IN ONE CO-ENROLLED COURSE AT A TIME.

Course Description
Machine learning includes the science, engineering, and techniques for developing solutions to complex problems without having to explicitly program the computers. The course is designed to provide medical students with the theoretical underpinnings of the machine learning algorithms covered as well as the practical knowledge for designing and implementing solutions in various domains with specific focus on applications for medical professionals.

Requirements
Students are expected to work on their own computers, with minimum requirements of a Windows 10, MAC OS, or Linux based OS, a minimum of 8 GB memory, 500 GB of disk space, and 1200x800 screen resolution. UAB high performance computing resources may be used as per UAB rules and regulations. Use of cloud-based GPU computers is optional.
Evaluation
Pass/Fail based on in class assignments.
