Course Description
This course is open to students accepted for the UAB Huntsville Integrated Residency Program. Learning Objectives: The student will gain a broad and fundamental knowledge of the evaluation and management of critically ill patients. The students will get a broad experience in critical care medicine and pulmonology to include, but not be limited to: initial assessment of patients requiring ICU admissions, ventilator and airway management, management of unstable patients, and ongoing care of patients in the ICU. Additionally, discussions of basic pathophysiology, modes of therapy and heir rationale, and psychosocial and ethical issues which arise. Bedside and didactic teaching will be used.

Requirements
The student will be expected to participate in all activities as directed by the attending physician(s) to whom they are assigned to work.
Evaluation
Pass/Fail. Students will be evaluated by the faculty preceptor on knowledge, skills, professional attitude and values. This course will be graded as a pass/fail experience using the standard School of Medicine evaluation form.
