Course Description
This course is designed to increase students' familiarity with outpatient psychiatry. Students will evaluate patients, formulate treatment plans and may perform psychotherapy under supervision in outpatient settings. The course will emphasize interviewing skills and development of treatment plans for outpatient adult patients with a variety of diagnoses and backgrounds. Learning Objectives; 1) Students will gain competency in interviewing skills, patient evaluation and the development of treatment plans. 2) Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and improve skills in empathetic listening, diagnostic assessment, treatment formulation and clinical management of adults in outpatient clinical settings.

Requirements
Students will participate in the evaluation of patients in the formulation of treatment plans. Assigned readings and individual faculty supervision will be available. No overnight call is involved.
Prior completion of third year psychiatry clerkship.
