Course Description This multidisciplinary integrated MSK course is designed for 3rd and 4th year medical students with emphasis on advancement of knowledge of musculoskeletal medicine acquired in pre-clinical years, exposure to various clinical settings including orthopedics/ orthopedic OR, PM&R, rheumatology and radiology; acquisition of new skill sets, such as MSK exam, interpretation of radiographs and ultrasound guided procedures. The course has been designed to provide learner centered teaching in a small group setting (1-4 students) allowing opportunities for active learning. This one-week course is broken down into half-day sessions in order to incorporate the above described components with emphasis on shoulder and knee pathology. The students will experience the spectrum of musculoskeletal diseases in the various sub-specialty clinics listed above. These direct patient experiences are further enhanced through integration with anatomy review in the anatomy lab, radiograph interpretation and exposure to orthopedic OR and ultrasound guided procedures. Furthermore, learners are encouraged to do advance preparation through review of educational materials such as pre-recorded lectures/ PowerPoint presentations and articles, prior to the learning activities. Learners are expected to generate questions relevant to the sessions and seek answers, hence promoting self-directed learning. The course concludes with a half-day session with case based discussion and reflection on learner generated questions. Motivated students will have opportunities for ongoing learning beyond the duration of the course through participation in quizzes as well as hand-on experience in patient settings or use of MSK ultrasound in surgical anatomy lab or clinical settings. Student learning objectives: 1. Application of knowledge of anatomy acquired in pre-clinical years. 2.
