Course Description
Course Description The student will associate with a rural preceptor (family/primary care physician) and Rural Medicine faculty supervisor to discuss community health issues and physician roles in the community. The student, while seeing patients in the preceptor's clinic, will discuss community issues with the patients, the preceptor and the clinic staff. Learning Objectives: 1) understand the physician's roles as part of a rural community's therapeutic team; 2) observe the community primary care practice management style, including medical record; 3) gain understanding of community physician's lifestyle (work / life balance); 4) observe physician's role in the community outside of medical practice; 5) observe the values and appreciate the ways of life of rural Alabamians.

Requirements
a. During orientation, learn about resource persons and materials for the practice of Rural Medicine, discuss initial impressions of a community, and initial learning objectives.
b. At mid-rotation, check in with Rural Medicine Faculty to discuss progress
c. At the end of the rotation, discuss experience in a 15-minute presentation to include: 1) Overview of Rural Practice; 2) Practice Management; 3) Set up / Style / Medical Record; 4) Call Schedule; 5) Community Involvement; and 6) Lifestyle.
d. Work in the clinic with a rural preceptor (family/primary care physician).

Pass/Fail; Final oral presentation of rotation activities
