Course Description The purpose of this course is to provide exposure to the wide range of experiences that encompass Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. The student will spend time in the clinic and assisting in surgery. The student may also be asked to participate in pre-participation physical exams, training room evaluations and sideline coverage of athletic events, depending on the timing of rotation. During the rotation, students will spend time in the clinic of a local physical therapist specializing in athletic rehabilitation. Learning objectives: Including but not limited to ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, meniscal procedures, total shoulder repair.

Requirements Recognition of common Sports Medicine injuries and their primary care of treatment; Recognition and treatment of clinical Sports Medicine problems; To provide the student exposure and experience in Sports Medicine (primary care of acute athletic injuries, exposure to surgical procedures and patient care commonly associated with Sports Medicine, care of acute and chronic Sports Medicine problems in a clinical setting, learn examination techniques for Sports Medicine injuries i.e., knee, shoulder, ankle.
Evaluation Pass/Fail. Students will be evaluated on attendance, completion of assigned reading and participationin patient interactions and group discussions.
