Prerequisites * * * WRITTEN APPROVAL REQUIRED * * * Surgery Clerkship and completion of 1st and 2nd years of medical school. ***PERMISSION FROM COURSE DIRECTOR IS REQUIRED.

No LCME students accepted.
No osteopathic students accepted.
Course Description A week-long experience in a rural surgical practice, including both and or clinical medicine. The student is to spend time learning the everyday lifestyle of a surgeon in rural practice. Student Learning Objectives: Upon completing this course, the student will enhance his or her surgical competencies and understand the unique aspects of surgical practice in a rural community.
Where To Report Rural Community Hospital, Preceptor's Office, TBD. Contact Course Director at 205 -348-2886 at least 2 weeks in advance to set up location.
Requirements Participation in all activities at the selected surgeon discretion for an entire week. Prior to enrolling in this elective, students must contact Dr. Wheat, Course Director (205) 348-1303, JWHEAT@CCHS.UA.EDU and Brook Hubner, course contact, bhubner@cchs.ua.edu. See course description.
