Course Description
Introduce the student to multi-disciplinary care of cardiac surgery patients with heart disease. The student/acting intern will work with the cardiac surgeons during acting internship and follow the care of the patients from preop to postoperative discharge. Course Format: Daily disciplinary rounds; weekly CT surgery education conferences; monthly morbidity and mortality; monthly journal club; simulation lab. Student Learning Objectives: 1) Introduction to cardiac pathology anatomy. 2) Introduction to pathophysiology of congenital disease. 3) Introduction to diagnostic techniques to include echocardiography, cardiac angiography, cardiac CT angiography, cardiac MRI.

Requirements
Daily attendance at multi-disciplinary rounds. Attendance required in the operating room for surgical cases. Presentation at journal club. Attendance of conferences as mentioned in course format. Presentation at Case Conference.
For students/ acting interns looking to fulfill Surgical Acting Internship status: they are expected to round at least one weekend during the rotation and attend any emergency operation performed during that weekend.
For students taking the course as an elective having fulfilled the status of acting internship, the weekend call will be optional.
