Course Description
This rotation in Neuropathology includes experience in both surgical neuropathology as well as autopsy neuropathology. This four week elective is spent with the neuropathologist rotating on the surgical neuropathology service, and includes instruction in clinical and radiographic assessment of neurosurgical patients, preparation and interpretation of frozen section studies, the application of immunohistochemical techniques, and diagnostic evaluation of permanent sections. Some didactic presentations are included. The autopsy portion of the elective allows student involvement in brain evaluations, both grossly and microscopically.
