Third year medical students must have completed Pediatric Clerkship.

Accepts students from US LCME accredited schools.

Course Description
Our students will be exposed to all activities in the simulation center including cases and debriefing sessions. For some cases they will serve as the family members and other cases as consultants to younger medical students, physicians for nursing student cases and teachers as appropriate. They will have the opportunity to use our task simulators to practice skills such as Ivs, Ios, CPR, defibrillation, etc. Finally, as appropriate they can utilize our extensive research database to participate in research according to their interests. Learning Objectives: 1. Clinical skills such as administering intravenous fluids, medications, using oxygen utilization devices, nebulized therapies, skills such as intubation, intravenous lines, intraossesous lines, CPR, defibrillation. 2. Integrate physiology into clinical cases. 3. Learn adult learning and active learning techniques and practice teaching of adult learners such as younger medical students, nursing and pharmacy students.
Where To Report
Children's Hospital Pediatric Simulation Center, McWane Building Room 306, at 10:00 a.m. first day. The time may change according to our schedule.
Requirements
Attend weekly team meetings, attend and participate in simulation and debriefing activities. Prepare for teaching sessions such as SVT physiology, respiratory physiology utilizing the alveolar gas equation.
Evaluation
Attendance and participation in our weekly meetings as well as in our regularly scheduled activities. In addition students will be encouraged to write one MedEd Portal Case for submission in a case of their choosing with the guidance of our faculty. Students will have the opportunity but not requirement of participating in our center's research. During medical student simulations, these students will act as consultants and help with teaching of their younger colleagues.
