Course Description
This immersive experience provides students with the opportunity to explore the challenges and rewards of practicing medicine in an international, resource-limited setting. Students will participate in community-based medical clinics, engaging with diverse patient populations and gaining exposure to healthcare delivery in a medically underserved environment. The course emphazies understanding global health disparities, developing cultural humility, and strengthening basic diagnostic and clinical skills under the supervision of US Board-certified physicians. This course/experience is offered in association/collaboration with a Christian faith-based organization, and while respect for the goals of the organization's work is expected, all students are welcome to participate in this experience. Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, students will be able to: 1. Describe the healthcare needs and challenges faced by communities in resource-limited international settings 2. Demonstrate basic diagnostic and clinical skills appropriate for patient care in clinics located in a resource-limited setting. 3. Reflect on cultural, ethical, and spiritual dimensions of healthcare delivery in the context of local health and faith-based medical missions 4. Collaborate effectively with supervising physicians, healthcare teams, and local communities with professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and respect for diverse perspectives and beliefs

Requirements
1. Completion of orientation for the course/trip (details to be provided at least three weeks prior to course start date)
2. Submit a final reflective paper about your experience (to include: general course reflection, summarizing key clinical encounters, lessons learned about healthcare needs and challenges faced by communities in resource-limited international settings, etc)

This special topic course is offered currently during Fall Special Topic/Scholars week (1 week of credit) and during the Summer (2 weeks of credit).
