Course Description
Experience the challenges and joys of international medicine in an underserved clinical based experience. This experience will allow you to assess the varied healthcare needs of a different culture, explore the challenges of third world medicine, encounter infectious diseases (probably tropical) not commonly seen in the westernized world and build your basic skills and knowledge base in general medicine. This experience is offered in association with a Christian faith-based organization, and while respect for the goals of the missionaries' work is expected, all students are welcome to participate in this experience. Objective for students: Observe and learn about international medicine while practicing basic diagnostic skills in an underserved third world setting in established and "field" clinics. The student works directly with American Board-certified physicians and learns about the healthcare disparities in an underserved setting.
