Course Description
Students would go to the hospital and/or out-patient clinic 5 times per week to shadow a physician specializing in addictionology. The student will have the opportunity to use his/her medical history taking and physical exam skills in a real life clinical setting. The student would also have selected readings from pertinent journal articles and textbooks during the course of the shadowing experience. OBJECTIVES: a. Know and understand the extent of substance abuse in our society b. Recognize the behaviors of substance abuse c. Know and be able to discuss the medical manifestations and complications associated with substance abuse d. Know and be able to discuss treatment strategies for designing long-term cures for patients dealing with substance abuse problems.
